Saudi deported for overstaying visa, drug conviction.

A computer-security specialist from Saudi Arabia,

has been deported after a two-year legal battle.

Majid Al-Massari was deported after a ruling this month,

by Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy cleared the way

for his departure, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement

said in a statement Thursday.

Al-Massari was arrested in June 2004 for overstaying his visa

while in Seattle and working at the University,

of Washington's School of Nursing.

He also had a prior conviction for attempted possession

of crack cocaine,

which under immigration law is an aggravated felony.

Immigration and Customs officials said Al-Massari,

also is a member of the Committee for the Defense of Legitimate Rights, an Islamist group based in London that the United States,

recognizes as an al-Qaida front group.

The group seeks to overthrow the Saudi Arabian government,

the agency said.

While in Seattle, Al-Massari solicited money and helped administer,

the group's Web site, according to the department's statement.

This individual's removal from the United States

is another victory for ICE in its continuing effort

to restore integrity to the nation's immigration system and protect the community,'' said Dorothy Stefan, chief counsel for the agency in Seattle.

if they already knew he was a member of Al-Qaida, why the hell did they let him in in the first place? And then it takes them more than 2 years to deport him for immigration and drug violations?

Yeah, that's efficient :P
