Question about I-864 sponsor. Will my income be sufficient or will I need a joint sponsor requirement?

Hi everyone,

I am a US citizen and got married last December in India. I am the petitioner and my I-130 was approved from USCIS back in August. My case is at the NVC and I had a question about sponsor.

I started work in January 2014 and my salary is $50,000/year. I filed my tax return for 2013 and made about $15,000 from working while I was still in college. I did not claim any dependents on my 2013 tax return. I did not file income tax return in 2011 and 2012 because I did not work. I will submit proof of employment letter (including the salary), last 6 months of pay checks, and my 2013 tax return.

So my question is will my income of $50K for 2014 be sufficient for sponsorship or will I need a joint sponsor? If it is not sufficient, approximately what value of assets will I need to show to make it sufficient?

My household size is 2 so the poverty guideline amount is $19,662.

It will be sufficient. Your current income is what matters. Since it is above the poverty guidelines, and you will be providing proof of your current income ( paystubs), you will be fine without co-sponsor.
