Divorce/Health Insurance

So... I never thought I would have to post this considering everything my husband and I have gone through to be together, but we have decided to divorce :( Unfortunately, things just haven't worked out between us. But, the good thing is that we are committed to being as amicable as possible and remaining friends.

I apologized if this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find prior threads. Feel free to point me in the right direction. He arrived on a K1 and is now a green card holder. He is on my insurance now, but will obviously need to get his own after we divorce. Is he eligible for Obamacare or does this count as a government benefit?

Obamacare does not count as a "government benefit." It is insurance purchased from a private company.

He will be eligible for COBRA coverage from your employer. Depending on his age, that may be a better option for him. (If he's older is is more favorable, as COBRA prices are not age-dependent while polices sold through the exchanges are.) My guess is that if he's over 50, COBRA would be the better option. But it can be a complicated question.

Excellent insight, thank you! he's 29 so I think he'll go for the exchange
