interview documents

Hi,

My question is to those who have been through the interview part,

I emailed my documents to NVC and will be bringing originals with me to the interview. Do they take and keep the originals or do they take the photocopies and just need to see the originals to confirm validity of the photocopy?

I have a few original documents I would like to keep to myself as it would be extremely difficult for me to get a new one (e.g. birth certificate), I even have certified copies of these documents. If they do take the originals is there a way to get them back?

They print everything off from the emails so they already have a copy. They want to see the originals to confirm validity like you said. You keep all originals except the police report and I-864.

I was planning to bring a photocopy with the originals as well.

Bring photocopies of the originals and if, for some reason, they are missing a document you have the copy for them and the original to which they can compare it. You keep the originals. (There is a process, btw, to get back originals if you did inadvertently send one, however it is very time consuming).
