I came to Belfast Northern Ireland for 6 months just visiting, the first day I arrived I met my boyfriend, I will be leaving December 13th to go back to the U.S. He is coming with me under the visa waiver program which gives him 3 months in the U.S. When he leaves in march I won't be able to come back with him yet, so we were thinking about getting a fiance visa, so then he would have 6 months in the U.S and I would be able to travel with him after that. If we got that visa and ended up not getting married would we ever be able to file for it again? Also if he goes under the visa waiver program would he have to leave the U.S and come back with the fiance visa or could he just change status while staying in the U.S. We just want to be able to stay together and not have to be apart for a long amount of time. Is there anything you can tell me that will help me, any other types of visas or anything else we can do? Thank you.

A fiance visa only gives you 3 months in the US before you need to either marry or leave, so that doesn't change anything. If you are not planning to marry, then you should not get a fiance visa. The point of the visa is to get married in the US.

He can try for a visitor's visa, a B2, but he will need a good reason for why he needs to stay 6 months instead of 3, and staying with a girlfriend is probably not a good enough reason. If denied the B2 then he probably won't be able to use the VWP either.

Welcome to the world of long distance relationships. Looks like you will burn up all your time together in one lump. You could travel the world.

It will suck after he leaves.........

Are you serious about marriage or was the question an inquiry about trying to stay together for longer?

Oh and be careful. You don't want to frighten us quiet Ulster lads with your flashy/glitzy American ways.
