Hi guys! I am wondering do you know something about gay couples and expeditious naturalization? Is it the same as straight couples or we do not qualify? I am asking because my partner is stationed abroad, we are married and live together so this would be a great news for us! Thanks!!

If you're talking about 319b naturalization for military spouses, then yes, you qualify provided that you are legally married and meet the other requirements. Straight couples and gay couples are treated identically for naturalization purposes ever since DOMA was struck down by the Supreme Court.

Wow thanks JimmyHou! Yes, 319(b) naturalization .. I think we should qualify for naturalization for military spouses because he works for NATO. Do you know how long does it take to get citizenship?

No, sorry, I'm not really familiar with 319b, but there are a number of people on here who went through the process. I think, although I'm not sure, that to qualify for the sped-up process, your spouse has to be getting ready to deploy... I don't know how it works if he/she is already abroad. You'll have to read up on the details.

My advice is:

1- wait and see who else replies on this thread

2- search the citizenship forum for "319b" and read the posts

3- go through the monthly threads for the last year or so and follow the progress of the 319b applicants (each monthly thread, for example September 2013 Filers, will have a list that is divided into Texas, Arizona, and Nebraska filers. The Nebraska filers are the 319bs.)

Thank you for your suggestions!

You don't get the expedited process. The only difference is that you don't have to have 3 years residency with PRC in order to apply. You can apply for citizenship the same day as you receive the PRC.
