Hi all,

My American fiance's family are Muslim (from Bangladesh), though my fiancee was born in the US. I'm white, but have converted to Islam (though I'm a very nice person, I feel I should add given the current climate). When applying for my K1 visa I included the fact that for work/study purposes (I've just finished my PhD) I've travelled extensively in the Middle East (including places like Syria, Iraq, West Bank etc.) and speak Arabic.

Does anyone on the list who was interviewed at the London embassy have any kind of similar background? Perhaps being British-Pakistani or British-Arab etc., How curious where the interviewers about your fiancee's Muslim family, did they ask you about your own religious convictions etc.?

Thanks alot, I hope I'm just being paranoid, but you never know these days.

I've been on this forum quite a long time, but don't recall any religious interrogation per se. But your extensive travel in the Middle East could put you in an extended Administrative Processing where they do additional security checks. Some have even been told "approved" and the passport kept, but later find the visa is delayed due to the extra layer of checking that most do not go through.

With your travel background, don't book anything until the visa is in your hands. Not saying it will always happen, but your chances are higher than an average Englishman who has never left England. And if your surname is not a common middle Eastern name, then clearing security databases should go faster.
