Hi everyone,

I've done a lot of research on this website and elsewhere regarding the visa process and of course, it seems like everyone has a different experience. But of those people out there who applied for the IR-1/CR-1 visa for a spouse coming from Egypt, what was your experience?

I married my husband in March of this year and our I-130 was received on May 13, 2014 and is currently being processed in Vermont. I feel like I don't know how to plan for anything. It seems like overall, the entire process--from I-130 to visa in hand--the average time for everyone is about 9 months, but looking at people's timelines, many people took over a year :( This is discouraging.

What were all of your experiences like with Egypt and the US Embassy in Cairo?

Well right now at USCIS there's nothing you can do but wait. But you can prepare yourself for the next stage which is NVC. Click on the NVC Process Wiki in my signature below and read up on all you need to do and things you can be doing now.

NVC has also come to a grinding slow pace and what use to be a 1 to 2 month process is now becoming a 4 to 6 month.

As far as the embassy and interview wait, I am afraid for Egypt that is the longest part.

After you have case complete at NVC you wait for interview for Egypt that can be a 4 to 8 month wait (even though this last months assignments were encouraging people waiting since March and April got interviews).

So you are looking at maybe 1 to 1 1/2 years.

There are good news for Egypt; some cases completed on July have been scheduled for September.

Hope NVC keep this rate.

I think our case is an exception. A little over 6 months, but ours was a fiancé Visa as well.

I married my husband Christmas 2012 in Egypt. We filed for his visa the middle of April 2013. We got an expedite for the i-130 which kept us at standard processing times for USCIS even with an RFE. Our case was complete at the NVC on March 13, 2014 after receiving a checklist which added 60 days. We waited just under 5 months for an interview date. Scheduled for September 1st.

It is a long, grueling process but read as much as you can. Being aware of the next steps and terminology used is extremely helpful. Triple check everything to try and avoid delays.
