Pardon my asking (if this has been discussed before) what is the difference between NO DEROGATORY RECORD and NO RECORD ON FILE on the NBI Clearance. Just curious, my old clearances stated no derogatory record but when I got the latest today it says no record on file.

Also, I could not seem to see nor feel the DRY SEAL STAMP. The releasing lady must have been inefficient forgetting to make that stamp. Too bad I noticed it when I reached the office. Is this a big deal for USEM?

They're just the same means you have a clean record. Nothing to worry about. My NBI clearance issued last 2011 stated "no record on file" and when I have my updated NBI clearance this year it says No derogatory record".

You're fine, don't worry

Be glad that is what it states on the NBI... all is good.

From the embassy instructions letter:

d. NBI CLEARANCE (Green Form). Applicants aged 16 years and older must have a valid Record
Clearance (for travel abroad purposes) from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Clearances should
be in the applicant’s current name, birth certificate name, maiden name and any aliases or nicknames used,
including different spellings you have used of those names. An official letter of explanation from the
NBI is required for any notation of “No criminal record” or "No pending case”. For immigration
purposes, an NBI clearance is valid for one (1) year from the date it was issued. The NBI website is

On a side note, last year when we went to get an nbi while still planning on the k-1, there was a dry seal on it. The two we got this year, no seal.

Don't know if its because the one last year was in butuan and the new ones were in manila, or if procedure changed.

Just thought I'd share.
