So it's almost been a year now since I got my conditional green card, and I feel like I have no evidence currently gathered to prove we're still together (we are still happily married).

What kind of documents do they like to see at the interview and such? We've got a joint bank account, and we're on each others credit cards, but I can't really think of anything else. We don't pay a mortgage/utilities because we're currently residing with my mother-in-law. Can we get a letter from her perhaps, signed and dated, showing that we live at the residence together as a married couple?

Still a ways to go yet but I feel like I should start preparing now. Just need some easy things we can do to prove we're living together happily.

Thanks in advance everyone!

You should read through other posts that are similar to yours so you can see the evidence that others have/are thinking of presenting. You still have a lot of time. Also, look at the I-751 instructions form. It gives you some ideas of what to collect and present with your application. Good luck! :)

The two big ones they like to see are co-mingled residence and co-mingles finances. That means joint rental lease/agreement or mortgage and joint bank accounts. If you haven't gotten around to opening a joint bank account together yet, it's not too late. Lacking either or both of these, then refer to the ROC guide on this site and start going down the list for things you can use.

I would also add filing income taxes together. If you are both working great, even if one of you is not working, the other should appear on the taxes as a dependent. A notarized affidavit from your mother in law would be great as well, definitely would not hurt.

If maybe you ever helped the MIL to pay any of the utility bills or made something similar to a rental payment at the current address, that might help as well.

Joint tax returns for the last 2/3 years. You can get tax transcripts online.

Bank statements with both your names on them. Get samples from the previous two years.

Car insurance with both names.

Health insurance.

Birth certificates of any children born to you both in the last few years.

Basically they wont to see that both of you are in joint debt together.

Remember to have plenty of examples for the previous couple of years.

Have you any vehicles registered in both your names?

We have a joint bank account, although the statements don't seem to put both our names on them for some reason. Same with our credit cards. We have about three credit cards that both our names are on, but the statements don't show both our names.

We filed taxes together last tax year, what document should I keep to show that? Just a copy of the tax form or something?

No vehicle yet, but we're planning on getting one soon. I guess I can insure us both on that and show them the paperwork.

I know official documents are more important to them than photographs and such, so just trying to think ahead. How about something like a joint phone contract? Is that helpful?

I'm currently unemployed but I was working for about four months this year. We had an "accident insurance" policy for about two months of that. Is there some way I can go about getting documentation of that? I'm not sure how relevant that all is seeing as I still have over a year before ROC, but I'm assuming the more paperwork we can provide, the better.

Hi mpdeakin,

*You need to show pictures of you and your spouse together ( with other family members as well).

*Proof that you have vacationed together ( family trips-- Provide copies of itineraries or travel documents).

*Tax Transcripts that show you filed married filed together with your spouse. ( The Transcripts can be downloaded online).

*Provide Affidavits ( NOTARIZED) from people that know both of you.

*Copies of your credit cards showing that you share the same account.

*Copies of your credit card statements.

*A notarized letter from the bank showing that you and your spouse have a joint account together- the date that it was opened, the account number and the address.

*Bank Statements showing both your name and your spouse name.

*Insurance Documents showing you or your spouse as beneficiary ( If you don't have one, provide an explanations that why you dont have one with your spouse).

*Get a notarized letter by the owners of the house stating that you live with your spouse there and share a common residence.

*Loans that you and your spouse have together.

*Copies of Joint Utility Bills.

*The phone contract is helpful if it shows both of your names in the contract or if you have a family plan together.

*Also, it is very important that for the documents that you don't have you provide explanations.

Good Luck and let me know if you need anything else!
