Hey guys, I made this post over in the K-1 specific forums yesterday and it's on the third page with no responses.. I thought I might have better luck over here in the Canadian forums. Hoping someone has had a similar experience! Here's the post:

I'm a Canadian citizen and my medical is next week, and I've gotten my vaccination records and all that, but it just occurred to me that the doctor might want to see some medical records from my past history with an anxiety disorder. I've read that the doctor asks about a history of mental illness, and I know anxiety isn't on their list of examples like depression and schizophrenia, but I will probably still mention it. (Unless it doesn't count? Are they only interested in mental disorders that have associated violent behaviour?) I was on a few different medications for about 7 years, but I have been anxiety-free for the past 3 years. Will the doctor want more information about that? Like I said it just occurred to me since I don't have any current medical conditions..and I wouldn't really consider my anxiety a major mental illness, at least not in the same category as major depression and schizophrenia. I don't want to delay my visa process though since we're getting so close to the end, by not bringing needed information. :) (But I also don't want to go through the hassle of obtaining the records and possibly getting them express delivered from out of town, if I don't have to..) Has anyone else talked to the doctor about a past bout with an anxiety disorder, and has experience about whether or not they are interested in more information about that? Another easy-ish option would be to get a note from my current doctor saying I'm not a harm to anyone, or something.. Anyway, any thoughts?

Thanks so much!

Darren

At the medical they will ask you if you are on current medication and if you have a history of mental illness.

If you take meds for your anxiety, definitely mention it.

I take Prozac for mild depression. I brought a letter from my doctor that said my condition is stabilized and I have never been a risk to myself or anyone else. The immigration doctor took this and said "no problem! This won't be an issue."

He just wrote on my report "mild depression-stable". I passed the medical, no problem.

Things like anxiety and depression are really common and you will be totally fine at the medical! Just be honest. :)

Good luck!

I used to take medication for anxiety for about 3 years, I don't now. I didn't say anything about it because he only asked if I have any illnesses now and if I take medication for it and if it is stable or controlled (epilepsy). I think you will be okay without that information since it's all in the past and you don't take meds for it now.

Where is your medical being done?
