Student visa, visitor visas in the pass isn't a red flag just shows they want to come to US. What gets most in trouble especially in Nigeria is the information isn't consistent that's what many times brings up read flags. Saying they were married, have children, etc.

That being said what is a red flag is say the immigrate didn't know the petitioner when they filed in the past then suddenly they meet and they fall in love and file. It may look like to immigration they are trying to get here by any means necessary,

To add to that, they had met and begun dating many years before the F-1 visa denial.

Correct the F1 denial should be of no matter.
