I got mailed the NOA2, dated May 16, 2014. I have been calling the NVC and they do not have our case. So today I called USCIS to see if they had mailed our packet. After waiting on hold for over 3 hours to talk to a Tier 2 rep (ugh) the man said that since the NOA2 says it was forwarded to the listed consulate, that it would NOT have been sent to NVC.... I am beyond confused. He even said it typically goes to NVC then to the embassy.

Has anyone else experiened this? He suggested I contact the US consulate in Sydney, and I did just send them an email. But I am now worrying bc how will we be assigned a case number?

Thanks.

Beth

Check out the DOS Nonimmigrant Fiancee (K1) Visa FAQs for more information:

http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/types/family/fiance-k-1.html

This is a common erroneous message perpetuated by USCIS personnel. They work for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), not the Department of State (DOS). Both of which are huge government bureaucracies, each with their own duties and responsibilities to enforce their particular portion of the INA. I would be very surprised if a DHS employee knew the correct procedures at DOS.

Good luck on your visa journey.

Hi Beth,

A&B is 100% correct. It will go via NVC even though it specifies if has been sent to the nominated embassy.

You are looking at about 10-28 days to route from USCIS to NVC to Sydney consulate.

I think ours took about 3 weeks from memory

The long wait part is over. Get ready for the downhill part of the roller coaster and for things to move extra fast. Keep your arms and legs in the ride at all times.

It goes to NVC for literally a blink. It took two-three weeks before our paperwork showed up, and once it did, they were charming and helpful (or at least, the ones I talked to were), and will give you the case number, etc. Then it's routed to Sydney, and then everything happens REALLY DAMNED FAST.

Have you gotten the next batch of paperwork, sans medical, together?

Oh, btw - make sure the petitioner keeps an eye on their email. That's how you'll get packet 3!

I have called NVC since about the 10 day mark, they dont have it. That's why I called USCIS. But I read somewhere else on here that it may be taking NVC 4-5 weeks to get the petitions right now, so I am trying to be calm and patient. Friday will be 4 weeks.

I do have all the paperwork ready for the I-134. My fiance is scheduling the police check today and will make medical appt once we hear about the actual interview date.

I am beyond ready for this to go fast lol.

And yes, he is checking his email daily, spam too. But thanks for the heads up. :) Appreciate it.

Well, it's *at* NVC for a blink. Getting it there,... ;)

(Seriously, I think our case was at NVC for all of four business days before being sent along to the Consulate. But looking at our timeline, it took three weeks for it to go from Texas to NVC.)
