I'm engaged to a pinay, and she was previously married in the Philippines, which doesn't believe in divorce (most catholic countries don't) and we've been working on getting the nullment done, no problems getting the provinces approval but have run into a snag with the NSO in Manila. They either want a hefty bribe or are just unwilling to budge on approving my future asawa's name change so we can get working on the K1 documents. I've been told that just resubmitting the birth certificate would work, but want some advice. Would you advise doing that? or is there a better and faster way to get her to the States? Thanks for the help!

She needs the final annulment decree. No ifs, ands or buts. You can't file the first paper with USCIS until she has it.

Perhaps she needs to see a lawyer in the Philippines on how to get this annulment finalized.

Thanks, AI422. We've got a lawyer in the Philippines and they are working the case but it just seems they are coming up with one thing or another that we haven't done, when we've gotten all the paperwork filed and in triplicate. Was wondering if there is another way to get this done and get her here.

The annulment has to be finalized before you can petition for your fiancee, both of you MUST be free to marry at the time of filing the petition. BIG requirement. The annulment process takes time to complete.

Nope. No shortcuts for the annulment process, get all the required paperwork filed, and wait.
