self employed - i-864/i-864a please help!

Not sure what to do in this case. My joint sponsor is filling out the i-864 and her husband is filling out the i-864a as they filed their taxes jointly. My question is because he is self employed he doesn't have pay stubs to state he's currently made such and such so far since filing last year. What should in this situation? Also is it okay to leave blanks on the form where it doesn't apply? I see the instructions says to leave it blank where the answer is none or n/a, but have also heard people have gotten RFE's for doing the very same thing.

The self employed person's current income will be their income as shown on the 2013 tax return. For a joint filing where one spouse is employed and the other is self employed, subtract the employed person's personal income from the line 22 total and you'll have the self employed person's current income. No further documentation of "current income" is needed for the self employed person, but do provide for the employed.

Leaving the entire asset section blank is fine, but do put NONE or N/A as applicable. For example, one "NONE" will be fine in the section asking about other immigrants being sponsored, etc. No need to fill every "extra" blank, but answer the questions on the form.

Yes. Do you see where it indicates "see instructions"? Did you read those instructions for that specific question? If you had, you would see it refers to current income "you are using to meet the requirements...". Since YOUR current income cannot be used to meet these requirements the amount of your current income YOU are USING to meet the requirements is zero.

Always carefully study both the form and the instructions. Doing so is critical to your ultimate success. When you don't do so, you won't know what you don't know, so won't know what to ask.
