Hello everyone, i am back again for a new question and thank you inadvance for your help. My problem is that I have a very long long last name. It is actually 25 characters. At the ss office they told me they can't fit all of it so they fitted only the 21st characters. My passport and my green card both have my full name except on my ss card and at the ss database. I applied for a secured credit card online and the bank contacted me to verify my identity because the name did not match the one linked with the ss number when they checked.

I have a french driver licence that i am planning to exchange in virginia DMV for US driver licence. My concern is that the DMV will refuse ti give me a driver licence or an ID card because they will certainly check the ss number and the name will not match. I am afraid to be bared from having a drivrr licence till i get naturalized and change my name. I can't change my name in my country because they won't give me a court document which is needed to change name for green card.

What do you think guys? Will they refuse my request at DMV? Thank you in advance.

Regards,

I sincerely doubt it. I live in Virginia. You do not have to use your SSN. If they do ask, simply explain why there's a difference. Show them your other forms of ID...passport, visa, french dl, etc... If they refuse you, I'd be very surprised. If that happens...go to the local SS office and have them produce a letter stating why they couldn't fit your whole name on the SS card...I don't believe that that will be necessary.

Thank you for your answer. I hope so i can't see myself without driving licence for 5 years because of that. After reading about some jobs doing background checks and because of names does not match and dmv requiring for name of the ssn to match the name pn passport and green card it scares me.
