I left the UK in 2009 and now, yes, only just now do I learn of form P85  what an idiot :( however, I am unsure what to do as I hadn't worked for years before leaving, I was full time caring for my special needs child so didn't pay or complete tax forms. Should I still file the form to let the goverment know I've gone or should I just leave it as it's been over 4 years? I still have some bank accounts in the UK but no property or anything else. Will I be in trouble for not filing this damn form? :help:

I didn't, and nothing bad has happened yet.

Apparently a few years after I left my mom got a call or letter from HMRC asking to speak to me. It turns out they wanted to know why I wasn't using my national insurance number to work or claim benefits. She told them I had left the country and they seemed ok with that (not exactly much they could do about it).

Hmmm, ok. Well I'm glad I'm not the only one! I don't think the form is mandatory.
