Hi am new here. I have a question I filed my vawa case in march of 2014 I rceived my first rfe a few weeks later. I sent it in and they received it on 25th of april... last week I received a note from con edison saying that am receiving LIHEAP I didnt understand so I called them and they said am recieving public asisstance does that mean I got prima facie? However my lawyer didnt mention anything and all my mails go to him

my guess is that you already had a PA case previously opened (probably not as ONE PERSON), and that's why you got HEAP assessed - but you may still be not "on budget". If you never took Prima Facie to your PA caseworker, you won't magically start receiving cash/fs/Medicaid. Any of that would be calculated as of the date you brought PF in, and not one day earlier. btw, the case worker may well say: "OK, I'm taking photocopy of PF - and we'll process it". If you walk out of their office without written proof in hand of the exact date you brought PF in - forget it. It may never get done, and you won't have the proof that you applied with all proper documents as of certain date. You'll never get anything retroactively - this is just not their M.O. Unless you possess written proof

well, make sure you do - same day you get hold of PF. And don't leave PA office without proof in hand, no matter what they verbally promise. btw, why are you listing local office as Albany, if u r in Brooklyn?

Also, a girl from IN in Vawa5 thread said SSA (Social Security Administration) will issue SSN before she gets EAD. I'm almost sure this is incorrect statement

Energy assistance is public assistance (PA) in the sense that money comes from tax dollars, however it is out of a different pot of money and there are different eligibility requirements, etc. So, yes, in a way you are receiving public assistance, just in the form of helping you pay your utility obligations.
