Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share our experience of our interview, in order to help future couples.

We had our interview in Atlanta last week and it was not what I expected.

Our appointment time was 1:30PM but we did not get called until approximately 2:45PM. The immigration officer was very nice, which surprised me, and made us feel comfortable. Before we sat down she made us take an oath. Then, I thought we would be taken to separate rooms, but this didn't happen.

She asked us how we were, and what (if anything) had changed in the past 2-3 years since the marriage and 2-year green card. We spoke a little about our relationship etc. Then she said the reason you are here is because we didn't have enough financial evidence. The main thing she wanted was tax returns (she said in the original packet we sent 2010 and 2012 but not 2011?) so we showed those.

Then we showed some recent photos, our plane tickets from our trip to England at Christmas, and a booking receipt for an upcoming trip next month. She said she was happy with everything and doesn't see any issues. Told us a funny story about some drama that occurred with a couple earlier that day, and sent us on our way!

I was pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. I was nervous because I have always felt uncomfortable in these situations due to stoic officers (especially at airports!) but this lady (wish I remembered her name) was wonderful. We were in the interview no more than 10 mins. She did not ask any of the questions I had read about such as what color is your husband's toothbrush, or any questions about our family. It seems as though we had enough evidence but they just needed to see that missing tax return...I was sure we had sent it last year but oh well it's done now!

Our file got sent back to USCIS then we have to wait 30-60 days for the card.

Hope this info can help someone out in the future...thanks :)

I've always wondered why they make such a big deal about tax returns. Everyone has to file a tax return, and almost everyone files jointly. My wife and I filed jointly when we lived apart, had no joint finances, etc. I mean, we filed jointly because married filing separately almost always costs more.
