K-1 Both living overseas.

Hey guys,

A couple of days ago, my fiance and I finished putting together all of the paperwork for us to file the I-129f and send the packet to the Dallas lockbox, however I couldn't find anywhere what kind of check could we send if we've both been living here in Guatemala for the past 2 years.

I looked at the USCIS webpage and they advised to get a hold of the US embassy in my country, so, we contacted them and they said they didn't know about the $340 of the initial fee and then that they couldn't give me any information as to how to submit that payment if we both live here, that we had to go to the embassy.

We went to the embassy right after we spoke with the representative and when we got there, they didn't know again about the $340 filing fee, so, what the girl advised me was that here in Guatemala, (supposedly, because since i haven't heard this i don't trust it 100%), we need to file our paperwork at the embassy and that the filing fee is going to be $190. She sounded knowleadgeable, but again, since i've never heard of this and since i knew DCF is for spouses only, it caught me off guard.

Any thoughts on this matter??

The girl was wrong, you are right- DCF is only for spouses, you need to send yours to the US lockbox. Is there a friend or family member who could do a US bank check for you? You could then either send them the package and thye add the check and send it to the lockbox, or they could send you the check,m you add it to the package and send directly to the lockbox.

I haven't considered these options, i thought about sending an international money order, but a couple of banks here told me they don't issue those anymore. I'll speak tomorrow with my inlaws and if so, I'll send them the packet so that they can include a check or i'll talk to one of my ex bosses to see if they have a US checkbook and i'll give them the money!

I too live in Guatemala (for almost two years) and am married. I can file a CR-1 entirely abroad (I know yours is a K-1), can you not do the same?

No, DCF (direct consular filing) only applies to the CR-1 spousal visa.

Nope, it's not possible to file K-1 abroad, we sent the I-129f today through DHL to the Lewisville lockbox!
