Hi Everyone!

I am hoping someone can give me some advice:

My husband and I have a CR1 Visa in progress, currently we are waiting for our NOA2 (we are likely a few months away from this still). However, we need to complete the W7 IRS tax form, so that he can recieve his tax rebate. We do have an accountant helping us in the US, and i understand that i need to submit a certified copy of my passport, from the issuing agency. (i would rather provide the passport vs any other of the acceptable documents)

Here is my question: When i go in and request this from the passport office; do i have to surrender my passport, or will they pull the information from a computer database? I know that it will take 10 days to process, however I ask only because I am going on vacation with hubby very very soon... and i will need my passport to do so.

Its not an urgent matter, as we already know he will be recieving a rebate, but i am just wondering if i should attempt to do this before i leave. It would be nice to be able to get the ball rolling!

If anyone has been through this and can offer advice, it would be greatly appreciated!

So, I ended up answering my own question! For anyone who reads this down the road...

I went to my issuing passport office, with the request for a certified copy form printed off and filled out. I also brought my passport. They simply scan it in and give it back, so you dont have to surrender it. They said it will be 15 days before i get anything in the mail (they cannot mail out of country, and since i will be away in 15 days, i opted to have it mailed rather than pick it up). However today i had to sign for a parcel- my certified copy is here and good to go!

Super simple and easy! :)

Good to hear. I am in US right now and when I applied for W-7 (ITIN) I wish I had certified copy of my passport. I wasn't comfortable sending my original passport so I sent copy of it resulting in getting a request to submit original passport. I submitted my original one afterwards, one month later they returned my original passport only to reject my W-7 form few days later as we didn't sign Federal tax return form. (that was mistake on our part though can't blame them). So 2nd time for applying W-7 we decided to go to nearest IRS supporting center where IRS agent could see my original passport and return it immediately (as per W-7 form instructions) but guess what in rejection notice it was written to submit New W-7 form, Signed Federal tax return form and original passport so agent said now he doesn't have any choice but to take my original passport. Lol. So there goes my passport 2nd time, I just got my ITIN couple of days ago and I was told on phone that they have mailed my passport. Relieved!!! lol
