Hello VJ,

Gosh, it's been like decade since the last time I posted something on here. I came to the US in 2009, and now I am one step closer of becoming a united states navy. I just want to reach out if there are filipina like me who are trying to join or already in the navy. I just want to gather some ideas, or a heads up what it's like.

Thank you,

Maddy

Though it was a long time ago that I served in the US Navy (1971-1975) here is my opinion. If you join the Navy it will be an experience that you will never forget. If you go in with positive attitude your experience we be positive. There are so many benefits from serving in the US military including educational and citizenship to name a few. Work toward learning a skill that you can use after you are discharged. If I were to do over I would stay for 20 years and retire with a "pension". Get a 2nd career and work for 20 years and retire. Now I have two retirement incomes plus Social Security. I'm set for the rest of my life. If you make investments along the way your even better off.

Good luck in your decision.

I wouldn't recommend it. Expertise: I come from a long, proud line of draft dodgers and non-joiners.

I very much appreciate your input. I've always desire to be part of the military. Finally my husband agreed after 4 years of convincing. Navy has caught my attention, because they do have this program called Nurse Candidate Program (NCP). This spring semester is my last semester as Pre-Nursing Major student. My Husband and I think that we couldn't afford for me to transfer to a University to finish up my nusring school and we don't want to apply for student loan, we got denied for pell grant. So navy is the only option for me to finish school for free. Nursing and Military for me, its two birds in one stone.

Thank you

Join the Airforce. They actually have customer service... lol. We didn't have that in the Army. USARMY is a backwards acronym. Yes My Retarded #### signed Up... lol

Hello,

I went to airforce recruiting station, but I found out that they don't have any kind of program that would help me to finish my bachelor in nursing, but the Navy do.

Thank you

Hi

I respect whatever you believe in, or whatever belief you may have.

Thank you

You sound very sensible in your approach. I think your plan for you is attainable. Being in the military during "peace time" gives you the advantage to spend "quality" time searching and completing your goals without interruption. Don't forget there maybe other paths that possibly offered once you are in the military i.e. Medical Doctor.

During my service, I was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii for my entire tour. During that time in Hawaii, I took night classes at the University of Hawaii while my buddies were out partying and getting drunk. It was the right thing to do for me. I was able to complete enough credits to finish one year of college which was one less year I spent finishing my degree once I was discharged.

You're going to run into naysayers, but ignore them and do what your heart and brain tell you.
