Hi guys, I see a lot of suggestions here about calling NVC to find out the case number. I was wondering how does it work. I've been reading here that it takes about 2 weeks to 8 weeks to create a file, but what is this period based on? Is it based on the day that I got the actual mail or the day that I checked under my case status that we were approved? I just need to get an idea before I start calling NVC. All answers are highly appreciated.

Just start calling. It's based on whatever mood and pile you are in. Some have got their petition sent to NVC received inputted in a week some 2 weeks some 8 weeks. That's why we say call. Don;t be shy if you want to know and get through the process.

Read the NVC process Wiki in my signature if you haven't to get prepared.

Don't call, it's a waste of time. Even on the day our case was entered in the system and assigned the case number they always told me the same thing "wait 20 25 business days....."

Send an email to NVC at nvcinquiry@state.gov and ask to register your case for email notifications. Include your names, dob's, email address, and USCIS case number.

We received the email notification the same day the case was entered, just after i had called and asked again.

I'm not sure they actually look it up when you call. They just say "wait..."
