Hi all! Would like to ask y'all about when is the best time to do medical schedule?

I've read US embassy prefers 7-10 days prior to interview and I'm scheduled to be interviewed on April 22, however there are lots of holidays in April. Now here's the question. Can I do it earlier let say tom? It's about my period, I'm not sure when it will come but I'm sure it gonna be this week or early next week which will give me less time to secure medical exam for it need to be done at least one week after the menstruation.

Thanks all!!

You can do it earlier. No problem. Don't let the period screw this up for you. If you keep it to the 7-10 day area and the period screws it up, you don't get a second chance since you will not now have any time left to get it done after period is over. So go earlier and get it done before the period strikes. No problem on that.

I just looked at the calendar. If you think your period is going to strike in one week, that will shut you down until at least the 18th or so and that is way too close to intervew day. So by all means go tomorrow or next day.

Why is it a problem when you have your period?

They will refuse to do it during your period and tell you to come back in one week. Trouble is that if you are already at 7-10 days before your interview date, you will not have a next week.

The doctor (female doctor so don't worry) will examine your ####### for sexually transmitted diseases. Kind of hard to do while you are bleeding.

This is the rule in Philippines. Not sure if Australia is the same.

Thank you so much! I think I'm gonna go tom. Also are they strict of previous X-ray film that needs to bring with you during the medical exam? I meant I kinda lost my previous X-ray film last year. Will there be a problem on it?

I just checked the St. Luke's website on old x-ray films, and it said "when applicable". So I don't think there is a problem here. Candy's last chest x-ray was 7 years ago when she applied for an OFW visa, and there is no chance she will ever get her hands on that film. Hey, for your piece of mind, that rule about checking the ####### for STDs doesn't apply in Australia. They don't do that at all. There's no reason, if you're a woman, why you can't do the exam while you have your period, except that traces of blood may show in your urine sample. However, even if blood traces do crop up, it doesn't affect your visa application. The doctor is only checking your urine to see if you're pregnant or a junkie. The STD testing they do is a blood sample for syphilis.

Yeah true the whole period thing would only confirm what they're wanting to know. I think as long as you've had recent-ish pap test all is fine. I know someone who did the medical here and supposedly the physician just asked if she's had recent pap and she said yes and that was all.

Thanks for your reassurance!

That was why I conditioned my answer since I didnot know about Australia. You do make a good point about the urine getting contamineated with blood.

St; Luke's in Manila is known for their thoroughness, and the genital exam (men get one too from a male doctor) may very well be simply because they can.

In Moscow they just do chest xray and urine and bllod and ask a bunch of questions. Each exam is tailored to the US' medical concerns about that specific country.

But the St Luke's website is eminently clear that they cannot do the exam during a period.

The good part about St Lukes is they will do all the AOS required vaccinations without additonal charge. That will end up saving me about $800. Moscow does not do that

My familiarity with Moscow is because I had 2 failed relationships that went to K-1 visa stage with Russian women.

Short answer: It's their rule. :)

While female applicants of child-bearing age can undergo the medical examination during their menstrual period it is likely that the full examination cannot be conducted. To avoid delays, applicants who have their menstrual period may choose to reschedule their appointment for one week after the last day of their period.

http://www.slec.ph/us-visa-applicants.shtml#required-exams

The experience at SLEC is that they will complete most of the exam but WILL require you to return after 1 (one) week after your last day of your period to complete the full exam.

BTW previous X-rays are not required. SLEC will administer their own X-rays which gives them a better quality scan then most Phil Doctors can do just because of the quality of the equipment.

Plan to do your medical at least 5-7 business days prior to your USEM interview so the results will be at USEM when you have your interview date.

Good luck

I had my medical exam done march31-april 1, and my interview is by the end of this month. Its best to do it earlier so they can send your results to the USEm asap.

Goodluck on your medicals and interview!

That is a prudent choice so if something happens to delay it you get a second chance to get it done without losing your interview date.

Technically that is the long asnwer, you are so right. But the fact remains that if you go there with only a week to go before your interview and that happens to you, then you lose your interview date. So unless you are 100% sure your period will not strike at tha ttime, don't cut it so close.

Thanks for the info on the x-rays

Good luck to all of you with the med exam, the interview and your new liife in my country with your new husbands. And a special round of good luck to my beloved Candy. Her interview is May 20, and we will do the med either May 8 or My 12 depending on when her April period strikes.
