What does processing time of 5 months mean in USCIS processing I-130?

Hi...all...just want to ask that what does 5 months processing time mean when USCIS publishes new processing times each month for each category? Is it that one should count 5 months from the day their petitions are received by USCIS for their approvals???

What if anyone has filed and now its more than 5 months and they have not yet received any response from USCIS regarding their petitions and the processing times posted by USCIS are 5 months??? In this case what one should expect??? Should they call USCIS or wait for another 1-2 months???

It means 5 months processing from your priority date, which should be on the receipt notice you recieved stating that uscis recieved the application. If your still waiting and the 5 months has passed, it doesn't hurt to give uscis a call...it's past the processing time.

Thanks for ur quick reply...Daisy1. Mine is currently 5th month runnung and as it is over i will give them a call about my case. But i have seen that a lot of Vermont F2A filers haven't still got any approvals who have filed in Sep 2013....and on calling the USCIS say them that the national average goal is 5 months and their petitions are within processing times....so i was confused what to do as after 2 weeks my case will be over 5 months filed at USCIS.....

5 months is the estimated time, but they more often than not are never within that range. That said, it wouldn't hurt to call once you're past your 5 or 5.5 months.
