American Passports Found on Bodies of Al Qaeda Fighters in Somalia

January 05, 2007 2:46 PM

Alexis Debat Reports:

A senior official in the Somali government's new Ministry of the Interior told ABC News government forces had recovered "dozens of foreign passports," including several American passports, on the bodies of al Qaeda fighters killed in combat between forces affiliated with the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC) and Ethiopian forces in Somalia.

According to the same source, most of the foreign passports were Sudanese, Pakistani and Yemeni, but several American, British and Australian passports were also recovered.

The senior Somali government official told ABC News that the American passports found on the dead bodies near Baidoa, in Somalia, would be turned over to the American government.

Yesterday al Qaeda's No. 2 leader, Ayman al Zawahri, issued an audiotape statement urging Muslims to join the fight for "jihad" in Somalia.

The UIC, which took power in Somalia's capital of Mogadishu in June 2006, are believed to be linked to al Qaeda networks in Pakistan, the Sudan and Yemen.

Last summer, a senior Pakistani intelligence official told ABC News that his government had collected information on the movement of dozens of al Qaeda militants from Pakistan to Somalia, a migration Pakistani officials believe is part of an elaborate al Qaeda operation not only to provide military and financial resources to the UIC but also to establish bases and training facilities in Somalia.

Last October, Yemeni authorities arrested eight foreigners, including three Australians, a British national, a German and a Dane, for running an al Qaeda-sponsored weapons and human smuggling network to Somalia.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

More likely to be passports stolen by organized crime.

Or maybe naturalized immigrants.

In my book they and others of their ilk should be stripped of their US citizenship same as the Nazis that lied on their US citizenship applications. But since they are dead...who cares! It would at least be symbolic.

The truth is...instead of spending millions to go after Nazis 50+ years after the fact...maybe we should really be redirecting the money toward real threats to America.

I'm no Nazi sympathizer...but the truth is that the US government still spends a wad of cash to look for 80+ year old Nazis. What a waste of money when it is irrelevant to 21st century America. We know where the real threat is.

Somebody isn't doing their job in behalf of the American people.

I'm going to guess that too -- a hell of a lot easier for a terrorist than the naturalization process!

I was mugged in Naples a few years back and they got my US and British passports -- my US passport turned up when someone who bought it off the black market tried to use it. Thank god no one stole my identity. These things happen.

Everything is for sale. I wouldn't be surprized if they were sold by corrupt officials. Wouldn't be the first time.

Hey, peejay. Have you heard about the great social security give away Bush and Fox set up for illegals?

Unfortunately I have. I'm a big fan of CNN Lou Dobbs Tonight. If it wasn't for Lou and a few others like him...most of this ####### would be shoved through in the middle of the night without seeing the light of day.

Lou is often attacked...but is seldom refuted. That speaks volumes.

As far as Bush goes...he will eventually go down as the worst President in American history. He deserves much worst. I hope his chickens eventually come to roost.

I also watch Lou everyday. Love the guy! I tell ya, if I wasn't going thru this immigration stuff, Bush would hear from me several times a week. He is ruining this country and it is unbelivable that he's getting away with it!

We're still going through this immigration stuff and I still send Bush correspondence regularly criticising his sellout of the American people. I've even gotten some replies on White House stationary thanking me for taking the time to write. It's symbolic, but #######! He could care less what the American people think of him.

Not that I'm a big fan of Bill Clinton or the Dems...but Congress hounded him mercilessly and threatened to impeach him for screwing one woman. Bush has screwed millions of Americans and is still screwing us. I hope the Dems make his last 2 years in office miserable. Yes...I hope his political chickens come to roost.

Nixon and Clinton were sleazy, but I fear Bush has done far more damage to America in his Presidency. The icing on the cake will be when he amnesties the illegal aliens and you can bet that is coming.
