I moved several times and I can not find the naturalization certificate anymore I already searched the forum. I DO have a color copy of it. I'm just adding this because when I searched the forum, someone needed some number on it when he/she petitioned for his/her spouse. So any information I might need I still have, of course. I can just get it from the color copy. It's just too expensive and I'm sure it's lots of paperwork and takes a long time. I do not need a new one just to have one. That's what the original was for I also still have an old passport that's not expired yet and a new one, plus a citizenship card. Those are all in different places. So I will most likely always have at least one of them so prove U.S. citizenship in case I lost something again. The question now is: should I replace it?

I know. But the question is if I should. It seems to me that it's not neccesarry.

It's extremely likely that at some point in the future you will need an original copy. Perhaps it will be at the DMV for a new driver's licence, or registering to vote, or getting a new passport; I'm sure something will crop up, though.

Since you have a passport as proof of citizenship, I can't think of a situation where you would need to have an original naturalization certificate, actually. Hold onto that copy of the certificate, obviously, and keep your old and current passports and passport card in safe, preferably separate places (as you are doing), but for any of the situations mentioned above (dealing with the DMV, registering to vote, renewing your passport), your passport ought to be perfectly sufficient.
