Newbie here. My fiancé and I sent our K1 visa application last December. I have some questions about the visa procedure. Luckily I found this site last night.

The first question is about medical examination. According to P4 introduction, I should bring my vaccinations record to the doctor. Unfortunately I don’t have the required record, and so I am thinking to get them at some travel clinic before the medical examination. Based on the information I have collected, I should have MMP, TDAP and Chicken Pox for my age range. I am also confused about how many shots I should take for MMP and TDAP. For MMP, it seems that I should have two shots. And for TDAP, is one shot enough? Or I should wait for at least four weeks to have another shot.

The second question is about the timeline of K1 visa application. I read one post and it said that it might take 12 months or longer for no non-Canadian citizens to get the visa issued by Montreal consulate. Is this true, or just case-by-case? The post sort of scared me. For my case, I am not a Canadian citizen. I am holding work visa now.

I would really appreciate your any suggestion or advice! Thank you all in advance!

First off. You can get a blood test to check for your immunity on these. Talk to your family doc or get a requisition from a walk in clinic.

Secondly, I'm also posting via mobile device. Depending on where you are, travel clinics may not have all the shots you need.

I know after two blood tests they still couldn't figure out my measles immunity but the travel clinic doesn't have that one - I have to go to a "community health centre" - totally different location. (Yay Calgary) so just bear that in mind.

Mmr (where are you getting the p?) you may already have immunity for or you may just need a booster.

Talk to a doc.

TDAP is within the last 10 years. If your fiance is originally from a MENA country (Middle East / North Africa), then you can expect additional wait time after being approved.

And yes. Timeline. This does take a while. It's dealing with government and they work on their timeline not ours. Even Canadian citizens end up waiting a while. 8 months to a year isn't unheard of.

The P is Pertussis which is part of the TDaP. If you got the MMP, you should have gotten the MMR, as Rubella is required and you would have gotten 2 Pertussis. Hopefully it was just a typo on your part :-)

Thank so much fro the information! I really appreciate it.

It is mmr. And thanks for correction.

I checked your profile. Will you move to San Diego? I lived there 5 years before coming to Canada. It is a great place to live and work. I met my fiancé there!

Thanks again! I really appreciate it. I don't know if I have the shots before or not. I asked my mom and she said she was also not sure.

I'm not Canadian citizen, nor PR. I'm holding student permit and work permit.

We sent out the package start from Begining of Nov 2013. I just got the K1 visa approval 2 days ago in Montreal. I could have done everything since the first week of March which was even earlier then my actual date.

It did not take that long. If I'm not wrong, started from Oct 7, 2013, everything goes pretty fast as they have changed their systems to be in electronic way.

As long as you got all the documents as they require, everything should be fine.

Congratulation!

We sent our case one month later than yours. Last week we just got the approved notice from California Service Center ( the same as yours:). Now I am waiting for my P3 and then going to book the interview and medical examination.

Thanks.

If you already get the case number, you can just get P3 online. Here http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/303578/montreal/packet3-k1-mtl.pdf

Don't wast your time to wait for it. They will send to you by mail, but it's gonna be too long to wait or you just wasting ur time.

I was waiting for P3 for 3 weeks too, then I got suggestions from people to do like I said above. After 2days submitting p3 online, I received p4 in my email. Guess what, it was about 2weeks after I received my P4, the mail of P3 just arrived. Lol

Once you get p4, u can move to the next steps.

Good luck.
