We have received case number from NVC, and so preparing to schedule medical for my fiancee and her son at SLEC.

We want to get the medical done ASAP, since we have concerns that a TB sputum test will be required. Fingers crossed that will not be the case, but want to do what can be done to speed up the process. I will be filling out the online registration form, and see that it is required to give a specific intended port of entry (POE) into the USA.

Since we do not have plane tickets and flight itenerary at this point, I am not sure where POE will be. I can guess that New York is most likely, but there are a couple other possibilities. Is the visa issued for a specific POE and should I go ahead and commit to New York as POE, even though that might result in having to buy a more expensive plane ticket when the time comes? Or is it ok to list New York as the POE for purposes of the SLEC medical, and then possibly enter the USA at another location?

I did a quick search on VJ but did not find the answer I was looking for. Thanks for any information on this!

You can list any POE on the form the visa is not tied to a specific place. from the Philippines I would thinkyou would choose LAX or SFO as POE but it doesn't matter where you enter the country.

Keep in mind that the visa is valid for six months and is tied to the medical exam date and NOT the interview/visa approval date, therefor be careful. If you son does have to do additional treatments SLEC will contact USEM and your dates will be extended accordingly.

POE isn't important, just choose LAX or something.. doesn't matter at all.

Thanks for the replies! Since I live on the east coast, JFK in New York is usually my entry point when returning from the Philippines, sometimes Atlanta or Chicago. Great to know it is not a big deal about listing specific POE on medical registration.

That is a very helpful point about visa being valid 6 months from medical date, I did not know that. I will have to think that through, perhaps I should consider scheduling interview first.

My reason for wanting to get the medical done ASAP is that my fiancee's son was treated for TB about a year ago, and am thinking that will be a flag resulting in TB sputum test. So the sooner we can get that potential issue sorted out, the better.

The TB sputum test will take three days to complete. The test is a skin test and will be administered the first day and evaluated on the third day. So don't schedule on a Thursday or Friday as the results can't be read over the weekend. Best to do the test on Monday or Tuesday. That test will tell you if he is going to need their treatment or not.

Make sure to bring a copy of the boy's medical records for this treatment to SLEC

SLEC asks for the letter/email from NVC with the MNL # on it or the interview confirmation letter/email.
