Hello,

I'm looking for some information about buying/leasing a new vehicle once I come to California from Canada. My partner and I will be moving in the next few months. I will be coming on a F1 student visa for law school and he will be coming on a work visa. My question is will we be able to finance/lease a new vehicle once we arrive as nonresidents? He would be the primary leaseholder as he will have a significant income. We would not have an American cosigner as neither of us are American citizens.

What are our options for acquiring a vehicle?

I don't think you'll be able to. I bought a new car after coming from Canada on a K1 and getting married, and the car had to be in my US husband's name because I have no credit rating here.
