Hi, I am from Japan and has entered US with the status of K1 in end of Oct 2013 ( My husband is US citizen ).

We married in the 90 day time-frame and then applied for AOS, EAD and AP, waiting to be confirmed.

I have already read above URL about SSN with K1 status and understand that we could apply for SSN after 14 days from the date of arrival with I94 prior to the expiration date.

However, by the time I have noticed this above info, it was already too late, which means my I94 was no longer eligible.

My question is... since I cannot apply for SSN at this moment, am I be able to apply SSN upon I get my EAD or have to wait until I get my green card?

It seems like this kind of information has been becoming snarled. and According to my friend (who has exactly same status as me) visited social security office and was told you have to wait SSN until we get green card (not EAD) which is confusing to me.

Thanks,

As you can see from the information below, you can get the SSC when you have a valid I-94, I766 (EAD card) or I-551 (GC). Since you missed the window for the I-94, you will have to wait for either the EAD or the GC to arrive in order to get a SSC. You may have to help train the SSA employee as they may think you need the GC since it is listed first.

Immigration status

To prove your U.S. immigration status, you must show us your current U.S. immigration document, such as Form I-551 (Lawful Permanent Resident Card, Machine Readable Immigrant Visa) with your unexpired foreign passport, I-766 (work permit) or I-94 (Arrival/Departure Record). If you are an F-1 or M-1 student, you also must show us your I-20, Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status. If you are a J-1 or J-2 exchange visitor, you must show us your DS-2019, Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor Status.

Good luck,

Dave
