Hello all,

I recently got my I 130 approved, but now we're realising we don't want to move to the states until spring 2015. I've read old forum threads that say you can simply not move forward with the process for up to a year, but is that the case? Can we postpone the medical until this autumn without issue?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, you can but you won't have to worry about doing the medical until after NVC is done with all of its own processing of your documents. All you gotta do is once your petition reaches NVC and you have your case number take your time before you pay for I-864 & DS-260 then take your time before sending in your documents. Wait no more than a year of course. Maybe 6 months interval for each. Your medical will be the last step before interview anyway. BTW I'm waiting for case complete from NVC and due to unforseen events I've purposefully delayed my processing by at least 4 months

You are correct. From the time NVC receives your petition you have a year to communicate with them. Since you don't want to immigrate until next year spring. I would start your processing at NVC about January. It will hake about 6 to 8 weeks to get through NVC than you wait in interview queue and get interview and than you go get your medical.

Once you have interview you have 6 months from medical date to immigrate.

Once you get notification of your case# I would than call them to give them the petitioners and beneficiaries email. That is your communication ticker. meaning a year from the date you call them or email them the 1 year timer starts.
