If you could wave a magic wand and remove one of these at the cost of letting the other two continue unabated, which would you choose to remove?

    • Racism (e.g. "the white devil", "trayvon's a thug, i mean LOOK at him", "that arab just walked through security wtf!")
    • Sexism (e.g. "men are the cause of all the world problems", "would a woman president have access to the nuclear codes while she pms'es?")
      0
    • Classism (e.g. "the 1% steal from us! they are the reason we're poor", "welfare recipients are lazy and stupid")

The world is a big place. Many kinds out there.

Yeah yeah, I wouldn't consider myself naive. We're just talking about the states though. I would have that we would have at least all come to terms with Women's suffrage.

People from all over the world in this country. Some of the stuff I hear is just WOW. It was better a decade ago when we were all just a few years out of school. Today, everyone has accumuated spouses and girlfriends and boyfriends and work friends and neighbors and new fresh off the boat cousins who they drag along and... damn.

What is the rationale?

I have heard two. One is what valerie alluded to earlier - it isn't right. This typically comes from religious women, most of whom are married to college buddies of mine.

The other rationale is that women make bad choices that affect us all. Like social spending. This typically comes from my Randian buddies.

Yeah, the most openly anti-women's rights people I know are women.

my best friend and i used to often say, when were were both in the throws of single parenting babies and toddlers/full time struggling, that feminists destroyed women. of course, at the time we both wanted nothing more than to be able to stay home and raise our own children and have the fathers of our children present and supportive. paying daycare on a single salary not supported by any other income makes you think desperate things. thank goodness we grew up.

A guy I work with once lived next door to a multifamily Indian household. The elder female planted a row of roses. Like, from a bouquet......... just dug a hole and put the stems in about half way up to the bulb. Like she thought they would just take off and grow. Weird?

I've heard of people doing that.

The single moms in Jersey get state assistance for daycare. They got it good.

there's state assisted daycare here too. unfortunately, i've never met a state approved 'babysitter' i would leave my child with. ever. and i was lucky, in that my mom filled that role for me. my friend was not so lucky. she did use a state approved babysitter when her eldest was little. the woman had a disabled (biological) son that had continence problems and if he accidently wet himself (in school or at home) his punishment was to stay in his little sister's play pen for a time out, because he was a baby (neulogical disorders aside). he was eight or nine at the time.

I was not suggesting Indians do not know how to grow flowers. That one did not though. BUT, it was so odd, that I had to verify that it did not work.

FWIW, a debate on sexism is precisely why this thread was originally created. I thought that wouldn't happen when I saw sexism getting no votes at all but then SMR showed up. Thanks, dude. You da man.

Men should be complaining. Women rule the world through their genitals. Don't believe the big lie.

in my opinion, getting rid of racisim would be the first step towards ending sexism. but i don't think you can put sexism ahead of racism in a magic wand time line.

See? Women are not just satisfied with controlling men through their genitals. They want total submission.
