I need to mail documents to Kenya for my husband's interview. Actually, i'm just a control freak and want to put the entire package together so that everything is super organized. I don't want to pay $300-$400 for fedex or dhl though. I've gotten a quote for about $100 from usps certified mail. Has anyone had luck mailing documents via usps? Or any other reasonable suggestion?

I have sent mail to Ghana using USPS registered mail and priority mail express international. I've been told by three different postal workers at three different post offices that once the mail leaves the U.S. it can not be tracked. I haven't had any issues with shipping using usps. I've sent cell phones, a laptop, and documents and all items arrived intact and unopened. I'm almost certain that you can not send certified mail internationally. If you send your mail first class you can get registered mail which is the most secure because it's housed separately from all other mail and everyone who touches the mail has to sign for it. This however does delays delivery. Next time I send something I'll use regular priority mail international because the packages did ARRIVE in the country within the quoted time however it took about a week and a half for my fiance to receive notification that he had a package to be picked up. I feel that I spent the extra money for nothing. Just send the materials a far ahead of the interview date as possible and you'll be fine. If you click on this link you'll see the options for international mailing https://www.usps.com/ship/insurance-and-extra-services.htm Well wishes
