Hi all,

So I've sent off the I-129F petition for the fiance visa, it was approved, sent to the NVC, and its on its way to the embassy in Vancouver. Up until extremely recently, I was a masters student at a university and only worked a summer job for the last year, barely made any money (maybe 5k). Before that, I was also not a hot shot, but I did work full time in 2012 and 2011 and made over the poverty line for 2 people (I was single).

So I started work earlier this month and I'm going to be making over the 200% mark this year (I'm salaried), I believe the requirement is between 100-150%.. I've only received one paycheck for one weeks worth of work so far (but my yearly salary is listed on it). What are the odds that this is not enough and that we're going to be denied (considering the 2013 tax return basically has nothing on it, and the ones before or so-so)? To give some context, I'm in my 20's, I spent all of last year working on a masters degree, and my fiance is Canadian and is an undergraduate student.

How subjective are they? Will we squeeze by being young, healthy, and on a promising path or is there a big risk that they will ding us because of my dingy financial history? I want to get this over with ASAP, but is it worth it to work another month first to have multiple paystubs if there is some risk?

Thanks for any help.

Hi there,

From my understanding of this issue is that they will most likely look more at your current employment rather than past. By the time your future husband/wife has his/her interview you should have 1-2 more months worth of pay stubs.
Along with that a solid piece of evidence is an official written letter by your employer stating your position, gross wages and terms of employment. An example of how it should look like as given here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/support

Basically, your employer letter should state "To whom it may concern: (first name, last name) has been employed
full-time with the XYZ Company since 200_ as a (name of your job), and is an employee in good standing with an
annual salary of $XXXX. Signed, John Doe, Supervisor (or whatever title)" The letter should be on company
letterhead.

I can't tell you for sure that you don't have much to worry about but with your pay stubs + the letter it would be more than sufficient to prove that you can provide for yourself and the beneficiary. Which is all they are looking for.

I wish you the best of luck and an early congratulations for when this is all over (in the good kind of way) for you two!
