Hello everyone,

I've been using this website continuously for some time and have been very thankful for all of the help, but I have an issue that I can't seem to find a previous discussion so decided to ask it myself. My (now) wife recently came here on a K-1 visa, and during this time due to me (and now her) regularly changing address we decided to do everything using my mother's address, a quite reliable and permanent US address.

Anyways, I'm sure I'm overcomplicating this. But to be clear my wife and I are not currently living with my mother, and we are living where I'm now working; it's still a US address but on the other side of the country. However, we wanted to keep the stable/reliable address of my mother, and so we never changed the addresses at the USCIS. We are filling out the I-864/I-485 right now, and I am her sponsor, but there is the issue of "mailing address" versus "place of residence" on the I-864. I know that the address at USCIS is hers and not mine, while those on the I-864 are my addresses, but I want to have everything logically match up if possible. Meaning, that my wife and I are living together and that I am currently residing where I am working.

So, would that mean the mailing address is my mother's address and residence is where we currently are, or the other way around, or both are my mother's address? Or does it not really matter?

I think you want to make sure your residence is listed as where you currently live. It matters in that you will be given an appointment for your biometrics to be done at your local office - and if you are scheduled for an interview - your petition will be sent to your local field office for that as well, so you don't want it to be sent to an office across the country from you.

Yes, I was wondering about those issues as well. Thanks for that information. However, those will be based on the address we put in the I-485 and not the addresses we put on the I-864, correct? So, to avoid those issues we would have to first change her address with USCIS and then use our current address in all forms. I suppose our current address for now will be stable for a reasonable amount of time, but isn't changing the address with USCIS a long complicated process?

Okay, I've searched more on this topic and have come to the realization that at least changing my wife's address is quite simple, since we do not currently have anything in process, we can do it online.

However, I've also recalled that while I haven't submitted the I-864 yet, since it's a K-1, I have already submitted an I-134 in my name as a sponsor. However, I believe that was only submitted to the US embassy and not directly to USCIS, so do I need to change my address that I gave on the I-134 before submitting the I-864? If so, how? An I-865? Thanks.
