Hello! Is there anyone who got married in Minnesota, or to be more specific, in Hennepin County (Minneapolis)?

I'd like to know how many days it takes for us to receive our certified marriage certificate after our civil marriage there.

I know there is a 5-day wait period after obtaining a marriage license. I'm asking because I need to submit our marriage certificate to USCIS.

Thanks in advance!

We got married on Month-17th, the wedding officiant sent in the signed marriage license to the Hennepin county for filing record.

The certified marriage certificate envelope was postmarked Month-23rd.

So I think it would take about 1 week.

Thanks a lot Merrytooth for your timely response!

By the way, did you request multiple copies of your marriage certificate? If so, it will take additional days, I believe? We have to send an official copy of marriage certificate to USCIS, so I'm thinking it doesn't hurt to have multiple copies.

I only sent in photocopy of my marriage certificate to USCIS.

You can go to any Hennepin County serivce center and request for multiple copies of your marriage certificate on the spot.

  • $9 per each certified copy

Your neighboring state, Wisconsin, made it illegal to make photocopies of marriage certificates, say right on the marriage certificate, up to a $10,000.00 fine for doing so. St. Paul office has three of them, one for the AOS, another for the ROC, and the third for US citizenship. Venezuela has a copy of one with an apostile, wife was naturalized their. DOS with an agreement with Colombia says, since she was born there, needs a Colombian passport as well, they also have a copy of our Marriage certificate.

Wanted a copy for ourselves, so this adds up to a half a dozen copies.

Same thing with birth certificates, two year old grandson was at the country level, no problem, five bucks, newest grandson, moved all this to Madison, 30 bucks also with that no photocopy law, and takes two months to get one. Not only this, but my son is now required to give a copy to his health insurance company, another 30 bucks. I think SS just made a photocopy of his, son needs that SS number for his state tax returns. Not sure if they are doing this for marriage certificates. Walker must be paranoid.

I live in Hennepin County :)

My husband and I got married in Sioux Falls, SD. It's a nice 4 hour drive, but there's no waiting period. We got our license ($40) at 10am, got married at 12pm ($50 - our officiant was amazing and I'd be happy to recommend her!), received a copy of our certificate (they only charge $7.50) at 1pm and were on our way back to Minnesota at 3pm!

For USCIS purposes, I just sent in a photo-copy of it. You should be fine, I think...
