Hi guys,

I'm currently doing my MBA in New York on an f1 visa from Canada. I only have 1 semester left, but there is a very good job opportunity available right now.

Would it be possible to drop my f1 visa status and get a visa that permits me to work in the states instead?

Also, what about evening MBA students? Do they have work hour restrictions?

I have made an appointment with the school advisor that takes care of the visas etc, but it is not till next monday. I would like to know the whole story in case she tries to sway me one way.

thanks in advance.

All F1 visa holders are on work restrictions - even those who are MBA

You cannot work off campus. If you are dropping out of your MBA program that will terminiate your F1 status.

Your employer will need to sponsor a visa for you. Is your employer aware that you are not currently eligible to work for them?

You MAY be able (ask your DSO) to start your OPT now, that allows you to work in a job that is directly related to your major, and may still be able to attend classes if they are offered and work along your schedule.

good luck
