Hi,

The best time to fill-out DS-160 is when US Consulate sends the packet or instruction to your fiancee in Dominican Republic. Filling out DS-160 will take only 30 minutes or less. So no need to rush things in filling-out. What you need is to compile their requirements which takes sometimes. Here below is the sample instruction I receive from US Consulate when I'm processing my K-1. But of course other US Consulate may require similar but other requirements. Hope this helps.

The following items need to be completed by the beneficiary:

Medical (please refer to letter given or attached)

Police certificates

o Qatar

o Home Country

o Any country you have lived for 6 months or more

DS-160 www.trave.state.gov, or www.uscis.gov, or http://qatar.usembassy.gov

Birth Certificate (Original / Copy / Translation)

Marriage Certificate / Divorce Decree / Death Certificate (Original / Copy / Translation)

Divorce Certificate (Original / Copy / Translation)

Death Certificate (Original / Copy / Translation)

Other: (specified below)

Don’t pay any fees.

Payment will be at the consular section cashier.

_________________________________________________________________________________

The following Financial Documents need to be completed by the petitioner:

Affidavit of support: I-134 http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-864.pdf

Proof of citizenship or legal permanent residency

(copy of passport, naturalization certificate, U.S. birth certificate or green card)

Original current job letter for Sponsor on company letterhead (if employed)

Copy of tax 1040 for recent year, or notarized letter explaining why no taxes were filed

W2s for recent year, and proof of source of income if self-employed

(Include current business licenses, rental and/or lease agreements as appropriate)

If the petitioner’s income doesn’t meet 125% of the HHS Poverty Guidelines

a Joint Sponsor must provide the following requirements:

Affidavit of support I-864, signed by the Joint Sponsor

Original current job letter from Joint Sponsor, to include effective date on company letterhead

(If employed)

Copy of tax 1040 for recent year

W2s for recent year, or proof of source of income if self-employed

(Include business licenses, rental and/or lease agreements as appropriate)

Proof of Citizenship or Legal Permanent Residency

(Copy of passport, naturalization certificate, U.S. birth certificate or green card)

Co sponsor fill up I-864? I thought both sponsors and co sponsor fill up I-134 for K1 visa?

Somebody tell me this: The USC petitioner and the co=sponsor each fill out their own I-134 and provide supporting documentation, such as most recent tax transcript, letter from employer and/or recent pay stubs The co-sponsor should also provide proof of being a USC or LPR in case it is asked for. Hope that can help u.

Different consulates have different requirements. That is why everyone should read and follow the instructions from their own consulate and not another country's. For most consulates that accept co-sponsors with the K-1, the USC petitioner and co-sponsor fill out an I-134. No I-864 used for the K-1 visa. If a consulate specifically requests that a co-sponsor provide an I-864 instead, then of course you would follow their instructions.

Hi,

Take note on this:

If the petitioner’s income doesn’t meet 125% of the HHS Poverty Guidelines

a Joint Sponsor must provide the following requirements:

Affidavit of support I-864, signed by the Joint Sponsor

You don't need to have a joint sponsor if your meeting above 125% of poverty guidelines.

What exactly do I need to take notes on? Of course you do not need a co/joint sponsor if you meet the income requirements. I am not sure why you are telling me something I and most anyone already knows.

Maybe you need to re-read my response. I was saying the I-864 is not typically used for K-1 visas. The I-134 is used, for the USC petitioner and any co-sponsor they might need. Some consulates ask for the I-864 from a co-sponsor, but this is not something that happens at all consulates or for most cases, as in what is required for Qatar is not necessarily what is required for other countries.. For most cases and consulates, only the I-134 is used for a K-1 visa by the petitioner and co-sponsor, if needed. The I-864 is needed for AOS, after you are in the US and married.

Hi I'm just noting your comment. But no offense. It's just a pointer or additional comments that you have provided. Are you a lawyer? You'd better start you own Immigration law firm and rather than arguing here. It seems you know everything. Is there anything against you that I'm commenting on. What I'm seeing here is bitterness from my pointer. I don't know why you're acting like that. My goodness you're taking this seriously huh. If I offended you, well I'm sorry.

I apologize if how you worded your reply to me was not intended as it read to me. The way it was worded seemed you were telling me to take note on the snippet you posted and were letting me know you do not need a co-sponsor if you meet the income requirement. That is what I was responding to and trying to clear up any confusion as to what I posted before that may have made you respond that way to me. I was never offended.

Of course I do not know everything, now that is just a silly, snide remark. I actually should start my own immigration law firm. My only problem with that is, I have no desire to be an attorney.
