To people applying at the Mumbai consulate for Interview:-

Did you guys get a PCC from both the passport office and from the district police station and mailed it to NVC? Based on the link below if the passport issue date is greater than 6 months than one has to get a PCC from Police office as well.

"Applicants over age 16, whose passports were issued more that six months previous to visa application, must also obtain a police clearance from the District Police Office serving the applicant's place of residence."

http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/faq_police_cert.html

Now the confusing part is this. If you go to this link http://photos.state.gov/libraries/mumbai/395145/pereirals/IV-%20Packet4-Updated112913.pdf you can see that Mumbai consulate asks for PCC from the passport office only without mentioning anything about the date the passport was issued.

I am going to be emailing the consulate to see what they want during the time of the interview. Wonder if this is what the problem was yesterday where we got a case complete and still issued a checklist 2days after case complete for PCC and NVC has no idea why the checklist was issued and confirmed that our case is COMPLETE and don;t have to send anything to NVC and told me to wait for the interview letter.

I had the same query and asked my lawyer..He said just PCC from Passport Office. Also I searched for the Interview preparation: http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/ivinterview_preparation.html This also just mentions PCC from Passport Office only.

Read this link.

It mentions both from the passport office and from the district police office if the passport is 6months or older at the time of visa application. I did submit the PCC from Passport office to NVC and they have it. They confirmed on the phone that case is complete and got a checklist for PCC 2 days after CC. Doesn't make much sense and they haven't been able to confirm why the checklist was issued when they have the PCC and when our Case is complete.

Hi..I am not sure why you received the checklist. I follow 2 or 3 threads for Nov 2013 NVC filers and Dec 2013 NVC filers and sometimes I read in there that the checklists are false and to ignore them. Maybe you can check those. Did you E-Mail the consulate and ask them what they want? If they only want PCC from Passport Office, then you should be good to go since your case is complete.

Now I am thinking maybe I should have my wife get both as well.. Better to be safe than sorry.

Also, I heard that they stamp the passport with the date of PCC. A start/end date. Maybe that will suffice?
