Everyone,

I had a question regarding simultaneously filling out the I-485, along with the Employment Authorization Document(EAD). The cost for the EAD is $180. And my wife doesn't speak English anyway, so I was thinking of applying for it later, since she'd have trouble finding a job right now. I will be paying $620 for my wife and step-son on the I-485 application.........should I go ahead and make it an even $800 or wait until later. I'm a bit undecided still. thanks!

If your wife is not ready to go out to work then you may want to save yourself some $$$$... just remember that an EAD can do more than get you a job.... it can help with getting a drivers licence, opening bank accounts and many other thing... some people feel that even if they do not intend to work it is a good thing to have....

The EAD was kind of a waste of money for us. Claudeth got her EAD last December and her green card in February. It might be useful if you have to wait a year for the GC but most seem to be going through quickly. Good luck

I think it's worth it to at least have the option of working, just in case the opportunity presents itself. But every situation is different, and it may be more worth it to save the money....
