Mount Hood Climbers

Such a sad story...watching CNN and Larry King Live (who I don't like, personally, but he has an hour uninterrupted tonight about this story) right now while I do laundry, and it's so sad...they found one climber dead and the other two are still missing. They haven't released the name of the one that passed away yet, but I imagine it was Kelly James (for those of you following it) as he was injured and the other two went on ahead together to try to get help. I hope they can find the other two *alive* yet tomorrow somehow. M.

thats too bad, but they had to have known the risks. Mt. hood is a b!tch this time of year.

I agree that it was a risky thing to do, but they were experienced climbers and must have thought they could handle it. It was Kelly James they found, but still haven't found the other two....not looking good at this point. Really feel for all of their families though. I watched Headline News for a while last night too, and I remembered why I don't like to watch the news!!! M.

Those of us who've grown up around the Rocky and Cascade Mountain ranges tend to have a very healthy respect for the dangers.

I was watching the breaking news this morning of their attempt to retrieve the body and the continuing search for the other 2 climbers. From the sounds of it, if this group of veteran climbers and rescuers can't do it, no one can. Here's hoping.

I agree, too, it's not looking good....I just can't help but think that although it really wouldn't be any less painful at *any* time of the year, it's right before Christmas and all that on top of it.... I, too, think they should have been more cautious,etc. but I still wish they could have miraculously found them....they had one on last night...Randy something...who was lost up there in the 70s as a teenager and was in a snow cave for 13 days...up there a total of 17 days. Probably not in wind gusts from 60-100 mph with the storm they had though..... M.
