i received an email on october 4th that our case was accepted and to expect the i 797 within 7-10 days. it's been 24 days, and still nothing. we've checked with the local post twice, and they claim to have nothing for us (egypt's post is shoddy at best). should i contact the USCIS 800 number? does that i 797 really matter anyway?

The I-797 is the confirmation letter from the USCIS. It has your case # on it. Its your NOA1. If you ever decide to file for a K visa you will have to send a copy of that form. You should find a means by which to get mail, perhaps to a Post Office box, you will get alot of mail from USCIS that is time sensitive (for you). I would contact USCIS...ask them to resnd the form...make sure you have OR ask them for your case #. This is important

Some people like me never get a hardcopy. I only got text messages and emails that is how we got our case number, so just make sure you receive those. At this point it is not as important as when you get to the interview date this is when you will need hardcopies, otherwise once you have a case number you can check online with USCIS and whenever they transfer your case to the NVC you can definitely contact them often and know what it is going on with your case.
