Question for those done with interview at US Embassy Manila

Hello,

In the US Embassy documents it says that you can submit photocopies along with original documents and then ask for the originals to be returned.

Has anyone done this with their CENOMAR, NBI Clearance and Birth Certificate and received the originals back from the embassy?

If so, did they return them at the interview time?

Anyone do this and make the request only to be turned down?

Hopefully, if you have already had your US Embassy interview in Manila, and asked for the originals to be returned, you can reply and let me know what happened.

Thank you very much!

Joe and Barbara

PS I know this is related to my other post...sorry if anyone considers it a double-post...but it is a related question worded a bit differently than the other. I hope that is okay with the moderators. Thanks.

I requested atleast 2 or 3 copies of those documents as for NBI clearance they should give her 2 copies.

The wording from the embassy is "TRY" ....

 We will try to return documents that you submitted and asked us to return, but do not give us anything that
cannot be replaced. Make copies of important documents and submit copies along with the originals you want
returned to you.

Just curious what would you want an original of the NBI or CENOMAR for, CFO is happy with copies of those? I can understand bring a couple NSO birth certificates along to the States.

The reason I was asking is so the originals can be taken to the CFO. While I know the CFO has been okay with copies...I just don't even want a 1 percent chance of my fiancee being denied for something that is preventable...and correct me if I am wrong, but the CFO has suprised more than one person with what they ask.

I believe one of her documents was aquired the same day she asked for it...but the other took a month. I cannot remember which one was which. Her NBI was clean, I do know that. I guess we will go with photocopies and see what happens. I hope you are right Hank.

Yes Hank, you are right about the word "try". With wording like "try" and "may" and "possibly" ...it is any wonder anyone knows anything for sure about this process. :-)

Thanks all for your comments.

God bless you all.

As much as possible, get at least 2 copies of the CENOMAR & especially, birth certificate. You will need the latter anyway for your wedding. As for the NBI clearance, it has 2 parts. The US Embassy will only get 1 part, and the other half (marked Personal copy) will be returned during the interview.

Good luck! :)

If you want to have originals for CFO, maybe get extras. I don't know of anyone that has requested the originals of those NBI & NSO documents be returned from the embassy. Maybe report back here on VJ after the interview, this is how we keep things "up to date" here.
