Hi,

I could not find the information I was looking for so I decided to start this thread. I am completing my 5 years of residency requirement next year before I can apply for USA citizenship.

In 2013, I have travelled outside of USA in month of June for 35 days. I re-entered USA on July 7th. Now I may have to travel again on Nov 26th outside USA for 3 months. I will return in feb 2014. So my question is:

1) Can I travel like this and can still maintain my continuous residence requirement so that when I apply next year in Oct for my USA citizenship, there are no issues.

2) One if my friend told me that since I re-entered on July 7th 2013, I can travel but I have to be back by Jan 7th 2014 for continuous residency requirement.

I went on government websites too, but the information is not clear.

The information your friend gave you is not correct. The requirement is that you cannot leave the country for more than 6 months at a time because if you do then you need to provide a very good reason.

Your trip from November 2013 to February 2014 is only 3 months long and thus perfectly fine.
