Hi, we received NOA2 in mail a couple of days ago and to our surprise we already received an e-mail from NVC with our invoice#, beneficiary id and case #.

We weren't quite ready for the next step and have a question.

Currently, I (petitioner) am finishing my last year of medical school over seas. I intend to return to the US in March of the next year. In the mean time, my husband, also a medical doctor, will probably be ready to move out to the US, he already has interviews from US residency programs.

I have not filed any taxes because I wasnt earning anything & so I guess I'll include a letter explaining why I did not file. I was supported by my family and so my father will be the joint-sponsor for my husband (beneficiary). Will my father have to file i864 or i864A? My ties to the US are decent, I have bank statements, credit card, health insurance & my permanent address is still at my parents. My sisters are also medical doctors, all live at different addresses in the US and I could ask one of them to co-sponsor as well but I am not sure how I can assess the need to do that ? We are not hiring any lawyers for this process as my husband thinks VJ is better than any lawyer.

If you can advise on anything I should be careful about in this process, I'll appreciate it.

You can slow everything down at this point, if needed. You have, I think, 4 months before the I129F expires and the interview must be completed, which is when you have to show your proof of domicile, support, sponsors etc. Once the K1 is approved, you have 6 months in which to use it.

You can slow everything down at this point, if needed. You have, I think, 4 months before the I129F expires and the interview must be completed, which is when you have to show your proof of domicile, support, sponsors etc. Once the K1 is approved, you have 6 months in which to use it.

oops, my bad! Wasn't reading carefully enough. (In the K1 scenario, it would be an option if you weren't quite ready for the next step).
