Asked in Ithaca, NY - about 2 hours

Today I passed my citizenship test, but the IO said she has to check "the law" to find out if my case is going to be approved or not. Reason: too many trips to my birth country. I am applying under marriage, and according to my math, stayed outside the USA for less than 18 months. I became a resident on sep 8th 2010, applied for the citizenship on June 20th 2013.

My international trips:

09/09/2010 - 02/15/2011 159 days

05/15/2011 - 07/03/2011 49 days

02/11/2012 - 04/07/2012 56 days

08/08/2012 - 10/14/2012 68 days

01/27/2013 - 03/05/2013 36 days

Not even a single trip over 6 months, but the officer said my 2 firsts trips were "too close". Will my case be denied?

read upon this.

Were you in the U.S. 3 months prior of submitting the app?

I think you'll be fine but you are very close to the limits. I am sure the officer will have to get approval from its supervisor before giving you the final approval.

Now, maybe the question is why were you out of the country for such a long time? was your husband with you? Maybe that is what is giving them a red flag.

The IO was trying to scare me :)

I already got the Oath letter. The letter was actually mailed 1 day after my interview. :)
