I only just noticed that the DS156K asks for this, and I am unprepared! I thought that the matter of financial support had already been settled with what my fiance originally sent along with his initial petition. Also, the website says another affidavit of support does not need to be submitted untill I apply for adjustment of status.

I am so confused about the contradictions in this process.

Do I really need to present evidence of financial support at my K1 visa interveiw, and what does this evidence consist of?

Also, what constitues "evidence of engagement"?

We've already sent letters of intent ot marry with the petition, and I can't really think of any other way without my fiance here. It's not like showing them my engagement ring proves anything (I could have bought it myself for all they know). Do I get him to write to them again?

From memory I don't think the initial petition covered financial stuff? From what I can gather the K1 interview is a two fold thing involving submitting evidence you can be financially supported for however long you need to be, and a chat with an official to check the relationship's legit.

Here's a link that goes into the support side a bit: http://www.visajourney.com/content/support - branched off from down the bottom of this one http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide. I've got a tonne of stuff which will no doubt be over and above what they want (Affidavit itself, tax returns, letter from his employer, pay stubs, stamped and signed letter from his bank with a healthy balance in it etc etc).

Will your interview be at the London embassy? My research/knowledge is based upon that! Reviews suggest no evidence of engagement per se is required, but if you are past your NOA2 expiry you need a new intent to marry letter from the USC (notarized). Again, just to be safe I am going to go armed with more than I need, some photos and bits and pieces, more of a security blanket than anything else! Here tells you specifically what to bring to interview: http://london.usembassy.gov/application_documents.html See how it doesn't mention letters, Skype logs and all that jazz.

The "evidence of engagement" thing is either outdated or somehow relates to something else, and not K1, because we neither send it with the D forms nor apparently need it at the interview.

As ever anything I've got wrong here, someone please correct! tongue.png It's certainly a lot of info to take in sometimes.

Well I guess that adds a couple more months to my wait while I get my fiance to send stuff like that :/

I'm also still confused about the inclusion of the affadavit of support because it specifically says on the website that I do not need this untill I apply for adjustment of status.

I don't know, the interveiw isn't scheduled yet. Is it possible for the interview to be elsewhere than the embassy?

I was hoping to go to the post office with my forms today. LOL.

On the embassy's checklist, they are requiring to bring the affidavit of support for the interview; financial evidences are not sent with the initial k1 petition, they are required during the interview by the local consulate. these are tax transcripts, a letter from the USC's employer, pay stubs etc. Your USC fiance's annual income/assets needs to meet the poverty guideline.

Oh; the "evidence of engagement" is specifically requested on form DS156K, which is also the only place it says to bring any evidence of financial support.

It also says to attach them which is bloody confusing as the letter told me not to send anything.

- the engagement evidences are brought to the interview but are not required. Some UK VJ Members said that this wasn't even asked during the interview but they preferred to bring them anyway to be prepared.

evidences: the ring, ring receipt, pictures of the engagement party if you had one (specially if this is the norm in your country)

I just wasn't sure if Wales fell under the remit of the embassy in London or not!

There's another affidavit for AoS I think (not read too far into that yet) but you definitely need one at the interview stage too. What "website" (bolded above) do you mean? As someone else has said, none of this evidence gets sent through the mail; the only stuff you send off at the later stages are the DS forms and cover letters.

Yes I know none of it gets sent in the mail, but I need to gather it before I can declare myself ready for interveiw and submit the DS 2001. Since it might take weeks to get anything from my fiance about his finances I don't want to chance it by submitting when I don't have all the documents.

This website http://london.usembassy.gov/i864.html is where it says that the affadavit of support is not required untill I adjust my status

My instructions don't specifically state that I need it so it would seem strange that I should psychically know that this is supposed to be brought to interveiw?

Follow your London info because that is where you will interview. I assume you followed the letter and found your instructions here http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html

They don't want you to mail ANYTHING but the filled in forms. They will "attach" (place in file) what they need to when you show up with documents at the interview.

They provide a list of what to bring to the interview. An affidavit if support is on the list. That's the first time any affidavit of support Is due. It is not part of the I-129F petition.

Proof of engagement is not needed, despite what that form says. They also aren't interested in your relationship. Just bring the documentation on the London list.

Added to my above comments. You are reading the info about an I-864, which is not a fiancé K1 document. A K1 is not authorized to use that do ument. It is correct that you will not do an I -864 until AOS, but you will do an I -134. You have to read your instructions and follow links.

Start http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html

Step Two has a link to documents http://london.usembassy.gov/application_documents.html

You scroll down the list and see Affidavit of Support. It says follow a link for more info? You follow that link and find:

Affidavit of Support: Form I-864, a contractual affidavit of support, must be submitted for most family-based applicants and employment-based applicants when a relative is the petitioner or has ownership interest in the petitioner's business.

Employment based visa applicants must show a recent letter from their employer confirming that the job offer upon which their application is based is still available to them. Qualified nurses must also present their Visa Screen Certificate. All other applicants must show evidence that they are not likely to become public charges while in the United States. Use of the form I-134 is an efficient way to provide this information to the Consular Officer.

All other applicants is you.
