London Interview - List of Typical Interview Questions

The interview in London was like the most anti-climatic thing for me. I spent around an hour at the embassy, ten minutes of which were both stages of the interview. First guy said all my documents were in order, second woman asked me;

- When did you get married?

- Why are you going to the US?

- What do you intend to do there?

Had printed off a bunch of Skype logs, facebook logs, pictures, everything, didn't need to show them at all.

I have known my fiancee for thirty years since we went out/dated at college, have been friends and remained in regular contact for that entire period and I even have a photo of us together at the time. We look a bit younger <cough>.

If I get any answers wrong I'll just claim age related memory loss....

Oh this is perfect, thanks! The husband has his interview on the 15th of next month, and I want to make sure he is prepared.

Did you (the interviewees) take in your spouse's financial info (w-2's, paystubs, etc)? What sorts of things did they want to see?

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

We'd already provided the NVC with stuff like that when we filed the affidavits of support, at the request of our lawyer. When the first stage of the interview went by, the guy went through everything and asked if I had anything else to give him related to the sponsors' finances - there was nothing new, so I didn't have anything to give them, and it was fine.

Hell, the joint-sponsor's W2 was missing as well, but the guy doing the interview didn't seem to mind - he just checked the AoS to see how much money they made and it was all fine.

General rule of thumb that helped me most - if you haven't submitted it already, take it with you. And if you have submitted it, take copies. You never know what they might ask you for.

I figured as much, but I trust uscis/nvc/embassy only as far as I can throw them...can't be sure they have the exhaustive packet I sent them.

A person who works for an employer (as opposed to self-employed or a contractor) will get a Form W-2 wage statement showing their earnings for the entire tax year Jan1-Dec 31. It also shows how much was held out for taxes, Social Security, and Medicare. They usually arrive in January every year for tax filing purposes.

A retired person who gets a pension will get that yearly total on a form 1099-R. (R for retirement)

Social Security recipients will get a form SSA-1099. (Social Security Administration)

1099-INT may show significan interest income.

1099-DIV shows dividend income.

Contractors get 1099-MISC

Any of those also accompany a tax return printout to be considered a "complete tax return" for the purpose of an affidavit of support. Anybody could fill out a tax form with a fake income. It is the W2 or 1099 that that adds some proof to the numbers on the tax return.

Or instead of doing all that, a tax return transcript can be ordered (free) from the IRS. It is a stripped down summary version of the whole tax return and does not need anything else with it to be "complete".

I had dated my wife 13 years ago when she was over in the UK studying. Like you, we kept in touch until we eventually ended back together. The toughest question I had in my interview was 13 years, why did you leave it so long LOL.

The whole embassy stage really is a walk in the park. I had far more of a grilling at my AOS interview for my GC than I did at the embassy, and even that grilling was fairly tame.
