Sputum Test?

Anybody here had done sputum test in St Lukes?? Can anyone share their experience from it and how they were able to make it until the interview at USEM?

If you had a positive result you need to wait for another 3 months and get tested again.. (thats what other people are saying) but just pray that everything will be okay. goodluck to you!

I havent had my medical yet.. i was wishing i would have an idea how the sputum test journey would be until the interview..

If your Sputum test is Negative you must wait until 2 months for cultured Test.

I'm going at St. Luke's starting tomorrow for 3 consecutive days for the sputum test. I've already foreseen I'd be going through this dreaded test since I had lung surgery and the scar on my lungs just won't disappear so I had a PTB smear test done at Medical City last month just to be sure I'd come up negative, which was negative indeed as I'd hoped. So I just hope I'd come up negative as well on this actual one.

The 8-weeks delay is such a bummer, this whole journey has been really daunting for me and my fiance but we're just keeping our fingers crossed now hoping the culture results turn up negative as well. I've read that if culture results turn up positive, you've have to go through DOT/Treatment for 6 months then wait another 2 months to re-do the whole medical again (and you'd have to pay the medical fee again too). That's gonna be a real nightmare. The 8 weeks wait is really scary but we hope and pray everything turns out well.

They administer the X-ray on the first day of the medical. You learn the results on the second day. If the X-ray is positive or inconclusive, they will ask for a sputum, which then means you go back for three consecutive mornings to give a sample.

Then you wait 8 weeks.

If after 8 weeks, the results of the sputum culture is negative, you go back and finish the medical. Obviously, unless you took the medical months in advance of the interview, the interview will need to be rescheduled, which St Luke's will do for you.

If the results of the sputum are positive, you undergo 6 months of TB treatment.
